In the last of our current Top Tips series, our digital trainer Tonia has some handy hints and tips for various Office 365 apps.
Are you struggling with an on-screen keyboard whilst working from home in tablet mode or on a mobile phone?
My tip is to use either handwriting, recording or dictation in Microsoft OneNote. This will help assist you with notes and ideas whilst carrying out home schooling or whilst you have access to a computer.
Handwriting
Use the handwriting button to enable handwriting mode and then use your finger or a compatible stylus to handwrite on the screen
To achieve this in the OneNote desktop app
Select the Draw menu and choose your pen type
Tip – if using a tablet or touch screen laptop (not available on mobile phone app) use the Ruled Lines facility in OneNote. This makes it even easier to write notes and ideas.
To do this: -
Go to the View menu >> select the Rule Lines option
There are several options to choose from. However, if unsure, get started with the Wide Ruled option whilst you practice getting to grips with your handwriting on a screen.
Record or Dictate
Another option is to either record or dictate your notes in OneNote so that you don’t forget any great ideas.
To do this in the mobile app: -
Navigate to the page you would like to record your notes and press a blank area on the page.
A mini toolbar will appear >> select the microphone button to record.
Or
From the keyboard pad on your device select the microphone button to dictate.
To achieve this in the OneNote desktop app
Select the Insert menu >> Audio – to make a recording
Or
From the Home menu >> Dictate – to start dictation
Note: You will need either a microphone or a device with a built-in microphone
